In a collective effort to enhance home safety and reduce fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths, Enbridge Gas Ontario (Enbridge Gas) and LaSalle Fire Service have partnered. The partnership was announced today, marking an important step forward for home safety in the region. As part of this collaboration, LaSalle Fire Service received 252 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through the Safe Community Project Zero. This public education initiative, in partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC), aims to distribute more than 14,200 alarms across 75 communities throughout Ontario. The alarms given to LaSalle are valued at approximately $24,400.

Enbridge Gas has invested $450,000 in the Safe Community Project Zero this year alone. Over the past 17 years, the program has delivered over 115,000 alarms to fire departments across Ontario, highlighting a long-standing commitment to public safety.

Properly installed and maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are essential for early detection, providing families with valuable time to escape during a fire or carbon monoxide leak. Carbon monoxide, a toxic and odourless gas, results from the incomplete combustion of common fuels and is known as “the silent killer.”

“Carbon monoxide alarms play a vital role as a second line of defense against this invisible threat, often called ‘the silent killerʼ,” said Ben Townsend, Supervisor of Operations at Enbridge Gas. “Proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances is the most effective way to prevent carbon monoxide exposure. We’re proud to support our communities by raising awareness and helping Ontarians take simple, proactive steps to stay safe in their homes.”

LaSalle Fire Service is very grateful to have been selected to participate in this program with Enbridge Gas,” added Fire Chief Ed Thiessen. “Their generous donation to our community will assist us in ensuring some of our more vulnerable populations have the vital early warning protection of working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.”

With this collaboration, Enbridge Gas and LaSalle Fire Service are taking tangible steps towards ensuring every home in LaSalle is equipped to prevent tragedies caused by fire or carbon monoxide exposure.
