During the week of Oct. 8, the LaSalle Fire Department visited several local public schools to promote fire prevention.
The event welcomed students from across LaSalle to learn about fire safety, meet their local firefighters, explore fire trucks and equipment firsthand, and participate in classroom sessions.
This year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” focused on educating the students and community about the safe use, charging, and recycling of Lithium-Ion batteries—a timely topic as these batteries become increasingly common in households and continue to pose fire risks if not handled properly.
“Lithium-ion batteries are powerful, convenient, and they’re just about everywhere,” said Ed Thiessen, Director of Fire Service/Fire Chief. “This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign helps the public understand the importance of using these batteries correctly to prevent fires in the home and to follow the buy, charge, and recycle safely approach.”
