The LaSalle Rowing Club members welcomed local MPP Anthony Leardi to discuss how the club is benefiting from the $121,600 Resilient Communities Fund Grant awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Provided by the provincial government, the grant is being used to strengthen the club’s resilience and sustainability by purchasing new rowing equipment, expanding its programs, and supporting the training of coaches and volunteers.

“The LaSalle Rowing Club has been a part of our community for decades. Thanks to the Ontario Government, through the Ontario Trillium Corporation, the Lasalle Rowing Club will be able to purchase rowing equipment to expand programming and support training for coaches and volunteers,” said Anthony Leardi, MPP for Essex.

“This investment not only strengthens the club’s programs but also ensures that our community continues to benefit from inclusive and sustainable recreational opportunities.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant will enable the club to provide all members with equal access to high-quality equipment and ensure inclusivity across its programs. The funds will also support volunteers and coaches through new training and development initiatives, ensure compliance with coaching standards, and offer opportunities for skill re-certification.

“The support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation has provided the rowing club with a huge boost in supplying larger crew boats, providing sustainability into the future. The timing and strength of the grant aligns perfectly with the club’s strategic plan, which was recently adopted,” said Doug Diet, president of the LaSalle Rowing Club.

The club’s mission is to foster a love of rowing in both its members and the broader community. LaSalle Rowing Club offers programs for juniors, adults, and para rowers (individuals with disabilities) in both recreational and competitive settings.

“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like LaSalle Rowing Club deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.

“That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure they remain at the heart of the community for decades to come.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ontario government, focuses on building healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested over $110 million into 1,044 community projects, supporting initiatives aimed at fostering active lifestyles, economic well-being, and sustainable environments.
