Jack Greenwell scored the winner in overtime as the LaSalle Vipers defeated the St. Mary’s Lincolns 2-1 on Friday night at the Pyramid Recreation Centre in St. Mary’s to force game seven in their Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Western Conference quarter-final series.
The victory was the Vipers’ second straight win over the Lincolns, having won game five 4-1 Thursday night at the Vollmer Recreation Centre and and sets the stage for the deciding game to be played Easter Sunday in LaSalle.
Following a scoreless first period, Gabe Barrette opened the scoring Friday night early in the second period for the Vipers (3-3) before Jordan Daer replied for the Lincolns (3-3) just over ten minutes later. Neither team scored in the third period to set the stage for Greenwell’s heroics in extra time.
LaSalle netminder Matthew Sbrocca was outstanding while making 42 saves, including 11 in overtime, to pick up the win in goal. Byrce Walcarius made 23 saves for St. Mary’s.
The seventh and deciding game of the series will be played Easter Sunday afternoon at the Vollmer Recreation Centre with the opening face-off at 2:30 pm
